The Indian Railways has the second largest railways network in the world. A separate foreign tourist quota has also been provided in almost all the trains for the comfort of tourists. The Indian Railways also offers online computerized ticketing system and one can book a train ticket from anywhere in the world. In addition, there are thousands of computerized railway counters in all across India where you can book your tickets with quite ease.

The Indian Railways has introduced special Indrail Pass for Foreign tourists and NRI's, which provide excellent value for money, enhancing the charm of a holiday. Foreign visitors can purchase Indrail passes on payment through Dollars, Pound Sterling, travellers cheques and credit cards at the bureaus and from the General Sales Agents appointed abroad and in India, which enable them to travel wherever they like, whenever they like and on whichever trains they like within the validity period. A tourist traveling on Indrail Pass is exempted from paying reservation fee, sleeper charges and supplementary charges for traveling by super fast trains or for meals provided in Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express trains.
Indrail Passes are available for half-day to 90 days validity and can be used within one year of issue. The validity period starts from the date of the first train journey and last journey should be commenced before the midnight of the last day. Request for reservation can be made through the nearest General Sales Agents abroad.
